Short-wave radio broadcast at Devils Lake description

In March-May of 2009, Newport High School teacher Julie Life guided her 10th grade students through developing and recording a radio broad cast to increase awareness about invasive species at Devils Lake, OR. People who tune into the broadcast will learn about invasives species that affect the lake, why it is important to clean their boats and gear, and safety precautions for harmful algae blooms.

Science Learning
Students researched invasive species problems and solutions at Devil’s lake OR.


Students learned how the health of a local ecosystem was related to the spread and impact of invasive species. Public is educated as they tune into this recorded message.

Further Application

Provides a model for adoption in other lakes.
